CONSTRUCTION:

My Cornhole bags are made to the American Cornhole Association (ACO) specifications. Each bag weighs 1 pound (or a tad more as allowed), and is 5" square.

First, ALL edges are serged (black thread) to prevent the edges from raveling out or fraying. This provides a stronger seam since the material doesn't fray.

Next, I sew around all four sides, leaving an opening (as shown here) that allows me to turn the bag right-side-out, and to fill it with corn. The Hunter Green (top) fabric illustrates the "inside" of the bag. I typically use thread that matches the fabric for these stitches, but I wanted the stitches to stand out so you can better see the details of construction. I back tack the stitching on both ends. Backtacking, or

sewing backwards when starting and finishing a seam, is a sewer's way of knotting a thread without actually knotting it...backtacking prevents the machine stitching from coming loose and provides extra strength.

Last, I fill the bag with corn and double-stitch the remaining seam closed, with my trademark red thread. By the nature of the game, stitching is under a lot of stress. But I feel that by serging and double stitching all the seams, I am offering cornhole bags that are extremely durable.
